I worked as a Lab technologist for 30 years and was stationed in Chemistry Lab for about 10 years. I also developed neck injury not knowing it was lab related. I had Theraphy for about 3 months. And I still continue to exercise. I was told that my spine is not in good condition because I often get pain. But we have always complained about the chairs and desk, and nothing was done. The computers were too high, I am told we were to look down at the screen, looking up damages your eyes. Leg room should also be a priority, legs should be extended fully. scramped up leg can cause clots. My father is 86 and has better eye site.

In 1995, after working 20 yrs in hematology,I needed surgery to remove a ruptured disc at C6. After having the surgery I learned this is a common injury to lab workers doing microscopy (cytotechnologists, pathologists, etc) and neck problems are quite common. My doctor ordered an "ergonomic evaluation" of my workstation when I returned to work but no one knew either how to perform it or what was to be evaluated. What a sad state of affairs. I can only hope things have changed for the better by now.
